babi leto

Just as I was resigning myself (read: whining and complaining) to accept my second and last winter in KZ, “Babi Leto” (Indian summer) arrived full of sunshine and cool breezes. These last few days have been some of the best weather I’ve experienced in this country. The leaves turned with the cold weather we had last month and I can actually appreciate them now against a clear blue sky instead of the dreary grey wet mess that was September. The white-barked, yellow-leaved birches along the streets give the whole city a sense of fullness of life usually absent among the grey soviet block buildings.

Autumn is here too, which is delightful. We can walk around the circle, enjoy watching the birds from the side porch, some inside and read a welcome blog from you. We are devouring the book on Central Asia with appropriate markings and pictures your Dad sent to us. We look forward to hearing from you again.
