Hey everyone! I'm going to Kazakhstan tomorrow. The other Kaz-19s (19th generation Kaz PCVs) and I are leaving at 1pm for the airport, and landing in Almaty at 11:40 pm on Wed. night. After a drive to a hotel in the mountain town of Tabagan (also a sweet ski resort) we will have another 3 days of orientation before meeting our host families on Saturday. I will most likely be living in a village 1-2 hours outside Almaty, and therefore might not be able to update for a while. I will be learning and training and freaking out and growing and everything else that goes with adjusting to a new culture, but I have been told our time for the first 12 weeks is planned for us all the time, and VERY packed.
Orientation has been a whirlwind of activities and information, most regarding general peace corps policies and practices. The last activity we did today really tied everything together as people went around and voiced their feelings, favorite quotes that fit the situation, and words of encouragement and excitement for the time ahead. It is AMAZING to hear everyone else voice my own concerns, my own aspirations, and my own excitement. It really will be amazing.
Posts will definitely come more sporadically as I move away from my internet-dependent life, and letters and postcards would be greatly appreciated. Finally I would like to give a huge shout out to First Presbyterian Church in Murray, who recently showered me with love, food and money at a going away party. There were far too many people and far too little time for me to name everyone, but I thank you all profusely. My extended family has never felt so large but yet so real in my short 22 years. My best to all.
