every box has a right to be boomin'

welcome to my first-ever blog. that welcome is perhaps as much for me as it is for anyone else reading this. blogs have seemed to me silly in a way, just a way for people with too much time on their hands to fill up cyberspace with their endless thoughts, spending hours and hours enjoying reading their own words on the internet. And maybe blogging is silly, and too many people use it to vent their angst, but here I go giving it a try.

I've never been one to journal, although I've always wished I did. Having a long distance girlfriend served the same purpose, as I would recap the major events in my life to share with her. That way I could organize and re-member my day and the important, or even more interesting unimportant things that happened. But having moved on from that relationship, and steering clear of them altogether for a while, I find myself without an outlet.

I also have seen the blog used successfully to keep friends and family updated with events, such as my friend Jay in the Peace Corps in Cameroon. I am applying to PC myself, and have been nominated as an English teacher in Central Asia (Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan) and thought I might follow in the footsteps of the PCV bloggers before me. I don't know that I will join peace corps; i still have to pass medical and background checks, and I just had ligament reconstruction surgery on my shoulder. However, I'm slowly learning to take it all in stride and enjoy the ride.

The title of my blog comes from a Keller Williams song, as does "I've heard it said live simply, so that others can simply live. Yes I believe in karma, and you get just what you give." I think that, other than general updates on my life and my journal-esque musings, I'll be compiling lists of favorite quotes and lyrics that really send a message. I want to learn to appreciate the value of meaningful words, well thought, simply put, and blatantly true.

come along for the ride.
